While we love our bright colors here at MaeMae & Co., we’re equally into creating punchy stationery via interesting graphics, layering and texture. Last year, Sherrylyn and Daylan came to us seeking wedding stationery that would match their refined, but playful vision for their Hawaiian wedding. Blending inspiration from vintage island ephemera with cheeky wording, a black and white color palette and various print methods (one-color letterpress, blind letterpress, engraving and digital) – all resulted in a suite that was classic, fun and perfect for a Hawaiian celebration. Be sure to check out some more detail shots of Sherrylyn and Daylan’s full stationery suite in our custom wedding portfolio.

Fun fact: when our couples have refined invitations, it’s fun to be a bit more bold with other stationery pieces – like we did with Sherrylyn and Daylan’s luggage tag save the dates!

We always love working on custom reception stationery – there’s so much opportunity to incorporate quirky and unique details into each piece – and that’s what happened in an EPIC way with Jennifer and Joshua’s day-of stationery. As a die-hard Star Wars enthusiast, Jennifer had the genius idea of integrating her fandom throughout the wedding to create tons of fun, personalized touches. The result? (literal) Stormtrooper escorts, Death Star coasters and hints of Star Wars in the music, programs, table names and signage. Thank you, Jennifer and Joshua for asking us to create the reception stationery, and congratulations on your alliance ;)

Jennifer and Joshua’s wedding was recently featured on Green Wedding Shoes – check out the post for a run-down of all the details and vendors.

Meet Charles, our English Rose. He’s elegant, understated and forever lovely. Charles is heavily inspired by The Secret Garden—but his floral elements are grounded by a graphic illustration style and clean typography choices. We love that Charles is simultaneously vintage and contemporary—a perfect choice the the most timeless of celebrations.

Charles can be a produced in so many ways. We’re showing him in a tone-on-tone peachy hued letterpress printed on our creamiest white paper (ecru). To keep things from feeling too sweet, we added some unexpected details: shiny foil edge painting and a metallic wax seal.

Here’s a few other ways we think Charles will be cool:

1) Go woodsy— forest green ink and kraft paper envelopes.

2) White engraving on navy paper

3) Florescent white paper with blind embossing on the floral graphics and pale gray text

Something we love here at MaeMae & Co. is a fresh color combo. It’s always fun to see how dramatic the result can be when changing up the color palette of one of our collection characters. Here’s a favorite example from 2014.

maemae_swanson_roxy5

Allie + Bobby’s taupe, citron and leaf green palette is a gorgeous and sophisticated take on our tropical gal, Roxy. She went from coconut bra to country chic with a simple swap of hues and we’re still swooning over this one at the studio.

Jett_mood_boardMeet Jett. She’s a domino prodigy who’s known for her signature style—a perfectly tailored peplum skirt and a flawless black manicure…always black. Jett is high contrast but maintains an undeniable elegance and she’s absolutely perfect for the modern couple throwing a stylish event. As Jett’s the first to tell you, nothing says sophistication like a beautiful script monogram in a black and white palette, right?!

Of course, we LOVE Jett just the way she is—but we also think this particular character suite has some major potential for fresh customizations. Here’s a few ideas:

1) Rose-gold foil text. Everywhere. All day long.

2) Add your wedding color to the monogram and calligraphy throughput the suite. (see below image for a version of the formal invitation on white)

3) Swap out the floral pattern liner and backer for your own custom pattern, or borrow the bold stripe from our guy Willie?

The options are endless! Ready to order your personalized Jett invitation suite? Click here and book today!

Beverly_mood_boardMeet our new character, Beverly. If you can’t track her down in South Beach, then it’s likely she’s flown off to Saint Tropez with her gal-pal Bette…again. She’s just fabulous like that. The perfect balance of elegance and flare, Beverly is your go-to gal for exuberant luxury. Her affinity for bold, deco-inspired patterns and timeless type pairings set the perfect stage for a glamorous affair celebrating the couple who know how to have a grand, old time.

Beverly is a jet-setter, with an affinity for the exotic and we think she’s be perfect for a tropical destination wedding. We’d love to see a client customize this suite—here’s a few ways we think it would be fabulous:

1) A jade and taupe palette

2) Turquoise engraving…on everything! (a la Dorthy Draper)

3) Go old-school and try platinum foil on rich, chocolate paper

Cool, right? Ready to order your personalized Beverly invitation suite? Click here and book today!

Last July my dear friend Summer married Bryan (see their stunning wedding in the latest Martha!!!) and I was so honored to be a part of the celebration as her matron of honor! A few months before the big day I threw her a bridal shower with the help of my amazing and talented friend, Jocelyn, from 1703 Event Studios (a Southern California event production studio), along with Sum’s sister’s (also matrons of honor!), the other beautiful bridesmaids, and other talented vendor/friends. The shower was in Huntington Beach, CA and since I was planning from Minneapolis, Jocelyn and the other ladies were such a gigantic help and made my vision come to life through cheeky decorations, fun activities and amazing food.

For this smooch-themed party, I used the phrase “Summer is kissing her single life goodbye” to set the tone through really playful stationery with lots of lips and stripes (Summer’s favorite). The pink and mint square invitations were flat printed on thick cotton paper and a separate card noted the couple’s registry, saying the “lovely bride is working on completing a home fit for a Mrs.” At the shower, a seating chart, table numbers, photo booth backdrop, snack bags further supported the theme throughout the day.

My crazy talented flower wielding friend, Lauryl Lane created gorgeous floral arrangements with peonies (another favorite of Summer’s), jasmine, maidenhair fern and ranunculus, while Summer’s sisters and brother-in-law made all of the sweet and savory food, including (amazing) truffle popcorn, parmesan crisps and Neapolitan flatbread. Activities included a lash and lip bar by the amazing Fiore Beauty team and an instant camera photo booth in front of the huge photo backdrop I printed (at Kinkos! score!). The guests then glued their photo into an album alongside personalized advice for Summer. Summer loved the idea so much we did something similar at the wedding too :) More to come on all the photos of the wedding stationery soon!!

Highlight: the bridesmaids all wore coordinating pink and mint colors – unplanned! Summer knows how to pick stylish friends.

Thank you for the beautiful images, Emily! See even more photos over at Martha Stewart Weddings!

How fab is this iteration of our Maximus suite?! Originally created for Martha Stewart Weddings and featured today on Style Me Pretty, Maximus has a heavy icon reference, so the suite is often personalized with icons that represent the couple. For instance, Moujan + Nathan customized theirs with a dog icon referencing the dog sculptures at the Viceroy Palm Springs. Brianna + Buzz went with a bee because the groom’s first name is, well, awesome! We love to see what our clients choose to do with the playful illustrations in this suite. And it’s always fun to see images from the wedding that reflect how the paper products set the stage for the big day. How awesome was the graphic-inspired styling of  Moujan + Nathan’s wedding?! Check out the full story and the more of Heather Kincaid‘s beautiful photos here. Congrats Moujan + Nathan!

Here at MaeMae, we love to create options. As in, options, options and more options. When it comes to our MaeMae Wedding Colletion Characters, we’ve found that one of the best ways to do this is to play with color. Beau, one of our fave new characters is shown in the Collection in an elegant, muted palette of warm grays (see Beau’s inspiration Pinterest board here) but we wanted to showcase how customized he can look in a different color way. Enter Blush + Tomato Red. We were feeling super-inspired by Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest HotelSeriously, that Mendl’s packaging! We loved the unexpected color combo applied to a vintage inspired design. Beau took to this inspiration perfectly and we could not be more obsessed with the way it turned out. And so, it is without further adieu, that we present to you A Pink Beau:

Continue to check back in to see all of the different color ways our brides will bring to the new MaeMae Collection Characters. We’re always delighted when a client puts a fresh spin on a character with unexpected  color combos like Marlowe in navy + rose gold  or how about in sky blue + red?! And we, literally, can not wait to see how the new characters look in custom color ways.

So…we’ve been busy around here – can you tell? Things look a bit different, we have a new name (more on that next week!) AND we’re introducing a slew of new wedding collection characters. They’ve been in the works for over a year now and we’re thrilled to finally offer them for purchase.

Our goal for these new characters was to seamlessly blend whimsy with refinement, while still maintaining the MaeMae essentials of punchy patterns, rich textures and playful illustrations. We love that these suites are all achievable at a collection price point, but still feel hyper customized with their strong attention to detail. We can’t wait to see how couples put their own spin on each character and make them their own through personalized text and vibrant colors (can you imagine Willie with a kelly green border? We can).

Check out our first six characters in full detail via the wedding tab above, and stay tuned throughout the new year as we unveil even more characters, along with new color ways for each suite.

Our friends over at Minnesota Bride recently featured a hyper-custom suite we designed for a couple marrying at the famed Smog Shoppe venue in LA. Industrial, clever and totally fun—this custom suite was as exciting to design as it was for guests to find in their mailbox. At the couple’s request, we took a cue from their super cool venue, combining layers upon layers of texture (think custom kraft wrapping paper, charcoal letterpress, a three-dimensional box holding an etched metal invitation, die-cut stickers, stamp overlays) with a clean, muted palette and pops of playful, bright red. Chris and Amber are such a fun couple and we made sure their personalities shined through the playful wording and text. The overall result—a wedding suite that’s slightly outside the box (ba-dum-bum!) and totally in-line with the couple’s awesome celebration.

Collaborating with Brianna, Buzz, and the fab BEAU AND ARROW ladies was such a treat. We started with the MAXIMUS SUITE we created for Martha Stewart Weddings and then added in some personalized details. The theme for B&B’s wedding was Wes Anderson in the Desert Wearing Missoni. I mean. Enough said. (check instagram for Beau and Arrow’s hashtags on that…) For the save the date we created a BACK TO SCHOOL VIBE and then carried some of those illustrations into their suite. (see a full photo of the save the date in THIS POST) All of the guest envelopes were addressed with a typewriter to keep it authentic throw back.

We also made these AMAZING HOTEL KEYS FOR ESCORT CARDS in a variety of colors (see more COLORS HERE). All of the SIGNAGE was displayed at the wedding in these amazing layered frames over marbled paper. All of the guests were treated in their hotel rooms to these custom wrapped Mast Bro chocolate bars. It was very difficult to make it through the WRAPPING PROCESS without digging into them… To stay cool at the Palm Springs celebration the programs were made into handy little fans.

Thank you, Buzz and Brianna, for being the coolest clients. Wishing you both lots of love!!

As I am sure you have noted throughout the six year history of MaeMae we have founded our design style on the nontraditional. This past year I have been so intrigued by how to make classic and traditional wedding stationery with the “MaeMae Flair” and found working with Fran (mother of the bride) and Bridget (bride) such a refreshing entry into this world.

Bridget is from Rochester, MN and is marrying Andrew in beautiful Park City, Utah. My favorite element from this suite is the folded map. I love showing the guests all of the unique things that will be surrounding them as they visit a new place. My husband is from Salt Lake and so I’ve also enjoyed the gorgeous surrounds of Park City and can’t wait to see Bridget and Andrew’s photos!!

Oswald is our modern gentleman and we love seeing him decked out in yellow and grey. Melissa and Jon ordered their stationery suite through one of our favorite (and for the record, first :) retailers, Urbanic, in Venice, CA. (did you see Lehua’s gorgeous photos from the trunk show we had there!?) You can see more photos of their fun wedding here on Green Wedding Shoes.

Here’s a peek at some fun custom illustrations Team MaeMae created for an online, infographic-style save the date. We discussed our design process for this project over on the Appy Couple blog last week where they named this save the date the “custom app design of the month.” Thanks so much Appy Couple!

P.S. Here’s an outtake we shared a while back from the same save the date!
